The North Madison County Historical Database provides access to local history materials preserved by the North Madison County Public Library System. This growing collection includes obituary records, historical photographs, articles, directories, yearbooks, maps, documents, and other resources related to Elwood, Frankton, Summitville, and the surrounding North Madison County area.
This site was created as a modern replacement for the library’s previous historical database. The new system uses Omeka Classic, a platform designed for libraries, archives, museums, and historical collections. Omeka allows us to better organize, preserve, search, and share our local history materials with the public.
The database is still a work in progress. Records and files from the previous database are being migrated in stages, and additional information, images, documents, and searchable text will continue to be added over time. Some materials, especially older scanned documents, may include text generated through optical character recognition, or OCR. OCR text improves searching and accessibility, but it may contain errors due to the quality, age, layout, or condition of the original item.
Our goal is to make North Madison County’s history easier to discover and use while preserving access to the materials that document the people, places, events, and communities of our area.
